It was nearly midnight when Daniel received a message from an unknown number.
“I need to see you one last time.”
He stared at the screen. He had no idea who it was, but something about the message felt strangely familiar.
A second message arrived.
“Come to the old café. 12:00.”
Daniel reached the café just before midnight. The place had been closed for years, yet a single light was glowing inside.
He pushed the door open.
A woman was sitting at their old table.
It was Emily.
They hadn't spoken in three years.
She looked at him and smiled softly. “You actually came.”
Daniel sat across from her. “Why now?”
Emily lowered her eyes. “Because tomorrow I'm leaving the country.”
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Three years of memories suddenly came rushing back—their first date, late-night conversations, silly arguments, and the promise they had once made to never let each other go.
“I thought you forgot me,” Daniel whispered.
Emily smiled through her tears.
“I tried.”
The clock struck midnight.
She reached across the table and held his hand.
“Maybe we don't need another goodbye.”
Daniel looked at her and smiled.
For the first time in three years, neither of them wanted to leave.
